Chariots of the Gods wreaked havoc on the Rainbow

Chariots of the Gods had the walls of the Rainbow Bistro rattling Wednesday August 14th.

The metal band from Gatineau, are a combination of modern breakdowns with slick old school 80s hair metal-style solos.

After their first song, lead singer Renault Jobin said: ‘’We are Chariots of the God and we are ready to fuck shit up.’’ I really liked the in-your-face raging song ‘’Defiant Ones.”  It was also very cool of them to dedicate my favourite song of theirs, “Revillusion (1904)” to me and thanked me for the great interview. Another wicked moment was when both guitarists walked off stage and into the crowd during the song ‘’Starbound.’’ They closed out with what they described as the ‘’heaviest, longest, most prog song we have.” The song in question was “Crumbling Empire,’’ and let me tell you, that is how you close out a set.

Cryptik Howling at The Rainbow Bistro

The openers were Cryptik Howling and Ceremonial.  My favourite song of Cryptik Howling’s set what their first one. There was symphonic background music like a circus, with some pretty heavy metal over it. That is not to say I did not like the rest, I just felt they opened with a bang. The lead singer provided me with a good chuckle when he said ”I decided to drink instead of singing the lyrics there.”  Before them was Ceremonial from Richmond. I could hear the opening act from across the street while I was interviewing Chariots of the Gods.  Made it in on time for their cover of Judas Priest’s ”Breaking the Law.”

I am still working on finding time to transcribe the really fun interview I did with the boys from Chariots of the Gods.  I had planned on doing it all in one article, but not everything is perfect.
