JUNO nominations: Several Ottawa artists get the nod

A tribe called red, Juno awards, Junos, ATCR, Ottawa,

Several Ottawa area musicians got the amazing news this morning that they were nominated for a JUNO.

Leading the way were the hosts of Electric Pow-Wow, A Tribe Called Red, who received two nods for Breakthrough Band of the Year and Electronic Album of the Year. ATCR is made up of two-time Canadian DMC Champion DJ Shub, DJ NDN and DJ Bear Witness – and they’ve been mixing traditional pow wow vocals and drumming with electronic music. This past year has been a big one for ATCR, as they’ve been shortlisted for the Polaris Prize for their breakthrough album Nation II Nation, hooked up with the internationally acclaimed Diplo for his Mad Decent Block Party, touring all over North America and the world, just to name a few.

Other nominees were:

  • Amanda Rheaume for Aboriginal Album of the Year;
  • MonkeyJunk for best Blues Album of the Year;
  • Hollerado for Recording Package of the Year;
  • David Francey for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year: Solo;
  • Petr Cancura for Instrumental Album of the Year
  • Angelav Hewitt for Classical Album of the Year: Large Ensemble or Soloist with Large Ensemble Accompaniment
  • Amanda Forsyth for Classical Album of the Year: Large Ensemble or Soloist with Large Ensemble Accompaniment
