New Video: The Stringers – “Apology”
Ottawa rockers The Stringers have released a new video for “Apology” off their latest EP See You at 7. “Apology” is the first full-production music video the band has put out, bringing in all the band members and even a few special guests into the story. Sarah Cogan, lead vocalist of great new up-and-coming band Thrifty Kids (think Alvvays with a soulful twist), plays the female lead in the video that magically transports all the band members into the same room so that they can play music together. Local MC Alex Silas also makes a quick appearance in the video out for lunch with guitarist Kyle Meyers before he gets snatched up by the mysterious sorceress. The motive of this sorceress is unclear, and she disappears through the bright exit without ever revealing anything.
The song itself is reminiscent of other alternative acts such as Arkells, and even brought me back to the late ’90s/early 2000s alt rock music that many of us once worshipped. Their six-song EP See You at 7, released in August 2014, is definitely worth a listen – especially for those nostalgic suckers like me that enjoy music that has hints of older influences interpreted and expressed in a modern way.
The video uses some impressive effects as well, including having people disappear into a cloud of black smoke and really interesting camera techniques when the band finally gets together and plays music.
