New Video: “Yellow Magic School Bus” by Street Meat

The new video by Ottawa’s Street Meat combines trippy illustrations and creative puppeteering with the band’s noisy dance-punk sound.

“Yellow Magic School Bus” is the second song off the band’s latest release, Taco Night! The song is noisy and so is the video’s constantly changing imagery and colour scheme. Entertaining and mesmerizing, it’s only one eleventh of their album which features about half an hour of grungy dance-punk. Funny & lo-fi at their best, like SeX Pose, an updated version of their 2012 EP Sex Pose‘s title track. Their new video is definitely trippier than the old TV show The Magic School Bus, where children got on a bus that could shrink to enter the human digestive system or transform into a space ship and fly to the depths of space.

The animation was done by Phil Osborne and Bruised Tongue’s Pierre Richardson had  a hand in helping with the puppeteering. Check out the video below right now or wait until you are feeling a little groovier. And if you like what you hear, don’t miss your chance to see them play tomorrow night at House of Targ with I Smell Blood and Nemesisters.
