On Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Vincent Massey Park, the inaugural aVibe Music and Arts Festival will kick off the summer’s outdoor entertainment and culture scene featuring local craft beer, independent artisans and food vendors, and live bands playing roots, funk, reggae and soul music. Organized by Brew Bus Lounge (BBL), a unique draw of the festival will be vintage Volkswagen camper vans (“VW Buses”) remodelled into a “Brew Bus Lounge” serving local craft beers on tap.

Dan Beardsley, BBL co-founder and co-organizer of the aVibe Music and Arts Festival, says, “When Volkswagen stopped producing VW Buses in 2013, many of us wanted to find ways to keep the vibe going. My buddy, and co-founder, Dan Hopkins and I were already salvaging VW Buses as a hobby and that led to the idea for a Brew Bus Lounge. We then leveraged more than 10 years of vendor experience at festivals around the world to launch aVibe, bringing together independent, local and artistic offerings to create a truly organic music and arts festival experience.”

aVibe Music and Arts Festival will feature local favourites Tympanic (pop-rock and funk) and Les Mosquitoes (reggae, latin, funk), House of David Gang (roots rock reggae) and Turn Style (soul, jazz, funk) from Toronto, and Slowcoaster from Sydney, Nova Scotia (indie rock with reggae, ska, folk and jazz influences). Ottawa’s Zattar will be spinning funk and soul tunes between band sets. There will also be a diverse range of independent artists, artisans and food vendors, among them Beardsley’s Nomadz/Nomadic State of Mind products: recycled, re-used and ethically-sourced rope woven into high-quality sandals, and organic apparel.

Early bird tickets are now on sale for $35 advance, and tickets at the gate will sell for $40. Children under 10 years of age enter free of charge and must be accompanied by an adult. The festival runs from 2pm until 11pm, with valet parking for bicycles on site.

The Vintage Volkswagen “Brew Bus Lounge” will offer local craft beer on tap.

Brew Bus Lounge is a not-for-profit corporation, organizing festivals and events which aim to promote music and music communities while supporting the growth of Canada’s craft beer culture.
