Thirsty Thursdays: Strong Patrick by Beau’s Brewery

Thirsty-Thursday

By Daniel Bordage

Beer: Strong Patrick by Beau’s All Natural Brewing Company

Style: Irish Red Ale

ABV: 6.7%

Pairing: St. Patrick’s punk playlist

About the Beer:  For this redheaded\bearded Irish, March 17th is one of my favourite days of the year. I do however have issues with green beer. How about you try the other Irish colour… RED! Strong Patrick by Beau’s is truly the right colour and taste for the St-Pat’s celebrations. I only wish they had this year round. When Febrewary comes around, load up to make sure you have enough for the occasion. And for this occasion what better pairing with a strong beer than some punk rock and celtic rock.

Commercial description:

Strong Patrick is a 6.7% ABV interpretation of an Irish Red Ale. Part of the batch has been aged in whiskey barrels and then reintroduced, adding subtle wood and vanilla nuances. The style is typically lightly hopped, well rounded and balanced, with a pleasant toasted malt character. Brewmaster Matthew O’Hara describes the beer as luscious and red-hued with a malty backbone, showcasing toasty and toffee notes complemented by warming alcohol & whiskey flavours.

The Music: FULL PLAYLIST HERE

Flatfoot 56 “Knuckles Up”

Let’s start with a good old fashion fight…

Ashley MacIsaac “Devil’s in the Kitchen”

One of the fastest songs I know. Growing up on the east coast, we had many kitchen parties with music, from folk to country to almost this… but nowhere near the speed.

Dropkick Murphys “Bar Room Hero”

We all know a bar room hero that we have placed bets on his or her end of life.

The Scally Cap Brats “You Never Know”

Here is a local contribution to the list of great Oi! Punk and to top it all off they are on Take A Shot Records. #OTTband

Mill a h Uile Rud “De Mu a Dheidhinn”

How about some music completely in Gaelic. Mill a h-Uile Rud’s ‘CeĂ rr‘ was the first CD of all new Gaelic songs ever released and these guys rock pretty hard.

The Gobshites (feat. Richie Ramone) “12 Steps”

A Ramone means punk… Drink up!

The Pogues in all their glory.
The Pogues in all their glory.

The Pogues “Sunny Side Of The Street”

You can see how they influenced Rancid’s vocal sound and rhythm.

New Swears “See You In Hull”

Another Ottawa band. Not Irish but if you ever find yourself lacking beer and it’s after 10 p.m. in Ottawa… you know your only option is Hull. #OTTband

Flogging Molly “Devil’s Dance Floor”

The entire playlist could have been Flogging Molly’s, but I challenged myself.

Spirit of the West “Home for a Rest”

Yes yes… Typical, I know… but who hasn’t lost it dancing to this no matter the time of year?

Honourable mentions

Dropkick Murphys “Kiss Me, I’m Shitfaced”

The Mahones  “Drunken Lazy Bastard”

The Rumjack “An Irish Pub Song”
